What is a Wellness Accountability Coach?

A wellness accountability coach is a supportive guide whose role is to help their clients make healthier choices so they can lead a healthier lifestyle, both physically and mentally. They help you strip everything back to basics and see where there is room for positive change, for instance by adopting a healthier diet or integrating exercise into your daily routine. In this respect they are quite similar to a health and fitness coach. However, they also blend in other techniques such as mindfulness, mindset challenging and confidence coaching, in order to help you successfully implement these changes and stick to them. By checking in with you regularly they keep you accountable, dramatically improving the likelihood of a successful outcome.

Why are they becoming more prevalent in the workplace?

The world of work has shifted dramatically since Covid-19 and flexible, remote or hybrid working are increasingly commonplace. This change has brought with it a myriad of benefits for individuals – the flexibility to work things like childcare and elderly care around work, improved work/life balance, the freedom to live further away from the office to name but a few – but, as with all changes of this kind, it also brings its own issues. With teams now spread across geographical locations and often not together in-person very often, it’s easy for them to feel isolated and unsupported. Plus the mental health impact of Covid is still being felt, with many people suffering from long-lasting stress and anxiety. As a result, a more holistic view of people is being taken by many employers, as they look to maintain the health and wellbeing of their staff. They’re not just paying lip service – they’re invested in looking after everyone who works for them.
